And then there was cake...

A large portion of my family loves the t.v. show Chuck ( think Alias meets the O.C.- yes I know, it can't get better than that!). So last night we gathered at A and Dan's house for the Season Finale. We had insane amounts of pizza to celebrate and then this... a cake.
The Season Finale was two characters wedding... Devon aka "Awesome", and Ellie. So my Dad got John and I, and Awesome and Ellie a cake for our Anniversary/their wedding. Notice the cake says, " Congrats on another year. Johnny Awesome and Ash.Ellie. (read: ashley) Creative... I know!
Thanks Dad and family for the fun "Anniversary" Party. It might go down as one of my favorites ever... It was AWESOME!
Love you all.
PS- Late last night on the way home Parker was complaining that his tooth hurt. I took it as "the golden moment" to take away the binki claiming that it was his binki's fault..(don't judge me...) He slept all night last night with out it. But today... well that has been another story. I haven't given in yet... but he literally has cried all day. ALL DAY. I even took him to Target and bought him tons of trucks with buttons and flashing lights. It was temporary satisfaction. Poor kiddo!

life lately...

A lot of things are breaking at our house lately. It is always funny when stuff breaks. I find myself getting so mad, but seriously... it is bound to happen sometime. Why do I get so bothered? Anyway- washing machine fixed on Monday. I went almost two weeks! After toting my laundry baskets to A's house, my mom's house, Cori's and my neighbors... I have never been happier to do laundry at my own house. I think Soph caught onto this whole ordeal because in all sincerity she said to me on Monday night as I was doing laundry...

"Mom, this is the best day. Isn't this just so great? Cause now we don't have to take our clothes around to other people's houses.."

Yes. Yes. Indeed.

Disposal broke. Got it fixed. And now the air conditioning in my car is going all freaky. I guess it comes in threes.. does that mean we stay good for awhile? We will see.

Not the point of the post. Not here to complain. I just have my random ramblings... which are (in no particular order....) as follows:

I had a thought the other day that one day I will have old kids. I saw a teenager in his too skinny jeans skateboarding down the street. I wondered at that moment what kind of parent I will be to teenagers. I tried to picture my kids as teenagers. For some reason this made me laugh.

Speaking of skinny jeans... how does Zac Efron pull them off? I think they look really ugly on all guys except him. ( Saw 17 Again.. It was awesome.)

John bought this new, weird dvd about the making of "Neon Bible" by Arcade Fire. It is playing right now and seriously... it is amazing. A.maz.ing. I really want to see Arcade Fire in concert.

My sister Nicole is moving to Vancouver to work for the Olympics. I will miss her. I love Vancouver. I love her. I can't wait to visit.

I feel like going to Disneyland. Right now.

I have a pit in my stomach about Parker turning three. ONLY because I am kicking myself for letting this binkie habit go on so long. Sophie put her binkie in a Build A Bear on her third birthday. She named the bunny Genevieve. She cried all the way home. I did too. And then she was fine. I have this serious feeling that it will not go as well for Parker. He could care less about the Build A Bear idea. He said he would mail them to "baby Drew, Owen's brother"(an idea he came up with on his own). I tried to tell him that meant all of them. He told me he was keeping one. I keep telling him it's coming. May 3rd folks. I am screwed.

On another note- Ruby won't take a binkie AT ALL. Saves me the trouble in 2 1/2 years of ripping my heart out.

Wish us luck... and Parker too!

"our psalms are sing along songs"

The Hold Steady played Saturday night in SLC. If they are ever near you find a way to go.

Which brings me to the Question of the Week...
All things considered, (venue, music, company, crowd, etc) what is the best concert you have been to?

four...

Four months old.

Seriously? Time flies. Four things I have learned in the last four months...

1. I miss sleeping through the night. But to be honest, that hasn't been for about 5 years. I swear if Ruby sleeps all night, somebody else wakes up...

2. Sophie has really grown up. It's like she knows she needed to. And if I were rating her on the past two days... A++. She has made life really easy, and pleasant. And I dare say she is going to give Papa a run for his money as "safety chair". She is all about safety. She even asked me to not answer my phone while driving... seriously? What do you say to that?

3. I think my kids will turn out despite my parenting flaws. Or at least I really hope so. I fall short. My kids still love me, and I still love them.

4. Ruby is dreamy. It doesn't matter that sometimes she is hard, sometimes she is easy, sometimes she sleeps well and other times she doesn't. Sometimes feeding her is just plain hard, and other times she is perfect. Truth is she is just plain dreamy, regardless. When I pick her up and she smiles so big it just melts my heart. Her cute big eyes sparkle at me and all the world is right.

I guess I have learned that I continue to love even more than I knew was possible.

according to parker...

Parker keeps talking about the washing machine incident. It is so cute so I wanted to get it recorded. Unfortunately my camera wasn't cooperating so I only got a part of it. Love him!

spring break plans

Well it is Monday morning of Spring Break. Last night on the phone my sister asked me what our fun plans were for the week... let's see. Here is what I came up with off the top of my head.

1. Get Sophie better. Yesterday we took her to the "doc in a box" at Smiths. (IHC clinic that pretends they are a good deal) John had diagnosed her "strep throat" with a flashlight and the Internet but we figured we should let someone else tell us... and give her a prescription.

2. Get our washer fixed. Man is it struggling. Won't drain, won't rinse. Yuck. Yesterday while Ruby was napping and I took Sophie to the doc, in between being uplifted by Conference sessions, John and Parker and their testosterone tried to fix the washer. Needless to say, it isn't fixed. I think Parker learned a new word. And the wet dry vac was full of about 10 gallons of water. The appliance man should be here between 9-1 tomorrow.

3. Spring Clean. That might require the washer. Guess I start that on Tuesday Night.

4. Oh yes.. and do our taxes.

Wow. Sounds fun huh? Maybe if the weather is nice we can throw in some park days, a trip to the zoo, a picnic, easter shopping, lunches out... oh the possibilites!

king of all wild things

We like the book Where The Wild Things Are. Parker has a poster of the Maurice Sendak illustration on his wall. Sophie has the old, beat up hardcover copy from the days of little John on the shelf above her bed. The live action adaptation of the book comes to theatres in October. Will it be any good? Don't know. It's risky business adapting classic children's books. But here's hoping. Sounds like they've got some pretty solid talent behind it. Spike Jonze directed it. Forest Whitaker, James Gandolfini and Mark Ruffalo are listed in the cast. And Karen O (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) is doing the music. Plus the Arcade Fire lent what may be the closest thing to indie rock's national anthem to the trailer. Pretty good start. Watch it and tells us what you think.

My thoughts are two:
1. I like the trailer.
2. I think it's been long enough to comfortably say Funeral is one of my all time favorite albums.
